Remember: Julie leaves behind, in the detention cells, hundreds of other foreign and Japanese detainees who have much less help available to them. I hope that this incident embarrasses Japan enough that it causes a shakup and reform in the police, prosecutors, and detention system to bring them in line with human rights NGO and International Bar Association recommendations.
