Hike Heiskell: Ray LaHood's hole in the bucket

There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza dear Liza...

Today, a little more history.

Edgar F. (Hike) Heiskell III is a plaintiffs' attorney who appears to also do his best to serve the public interest. Back in 2010, during the Toyota SUA crisis, he wrote a letter to then-secretary of the DOT, Ray LaHood, castigating him and NHTSA for their egregious regulatory failures, quoting Ray's big lie that NHTSA would "get to the bottom of this." If they got to the bottom of it at all, they only found a escape hole in Greenbelt, through which Toyota handily escaped, perhaps forever.

Ray doesn't get to the bottom of it.

Also, importantly, Hike recommended some remedial steps to protect the public from the ongoing risk of SUA.

None of his recommended remedial steps were accepted, except, perhaps, that the OIG got involved with a little pathetic effort to find the truth. But ultimately nothing has changed, as current NHTSA administrator Friedman recently exclaimed that the agency would not go "chasing ghosts" like it did for Toyota's ETCS safety defects. (!)
